Remington Pole Saw

If you have ever had trouble with overzealous trees in your yard, the Remington 2-in-1 pole saw may be for you.  It will allow you to reach 15 feet (10 feet of pole plus the approximate height you would be holding the pole) for the harder to reach branches.  It can also be detached to become a lovely hand chain saw.  Make sure to pick up a quart of motor oil for the chain saw.

Pick up a couple of those small pill boxes.  They are great to have on hand to take a couple of pills with when you are on the go.  If you have regular medication, you can even have a dose in your car just in case you unexpectedly eat away from home.

With allergy season upon us, consider trying natural raw unheated honey from a local company.  Most grocery stores will have some.  If not, a health food store will.  Sometimes, it will be the owner or friend that is a bee robber.  Take a spoonful every morning.  You may still need allergy medicine when your allergies are really bad, but you may be able to avoid the pills on a daily basis.  It will take up to a couple months for the full effect, but it is worth it.  Also, make sure you have some of those small packs of tissues to keep your nose clean.

If you have a precious, lovable dog at home that has a medical problem, consider visiting your local vet.  The office visit will probably be less than you think ($20-$30), and the piece of mind is priceless.  Sometimes, just a little medical intervention is all that is necessary to put smiles back on everyone’s faces in the house.

Make sure to only use distilled water in your car when mixing with antifreeze and for flushing the coolant system.  It may not be a bad idea to have a gallon or tow in your trunk as well.

Consider taking all of your cars to the same local oil change place.  They will know your cars and perhaps even help out at inspection time.  Make sure to ask about a loyalty program or coupons.

If you are having a little trouble with your car starting, consider visiting your local auto parts store.  Place like O’Reilly’s will check your system for free. They will even change your battery for no extra charge!  Most people are unaware of this fact.  This was unheard of years ago, but competition has created some of this extra-value service!

With the current price of gas, if your car is not in your garage at night, consider buying a locking gas cap to keep the siphon monsters away.  Most Chilton Manuals are cheaper than 20 minutes of mechanic time.  This should help will smaller repairs.  For larger ones, you will at least know which general area of the car needs attention.  So, for those larger repairs …

Make sure to find a trusted local mechanic.  Ask around and do Internet research if you do not have one.  You can save hundreds if a potential major repair if actually a minor one.  Sometimes a loose wire, fuse or relay may be all that needs attention.

If you are a fan of pasta and Cajun food, look for frozen crawfish tails at your larger size grocery stores.  You can find it at most Wal*Mart Super Centers for less than $10!  Definitely, good eating.

Fruit of the Loom over the ankle sport socks from Wal*Mart are definitely worth looking into.  An eight pack is only $5.87.  They are comfortable, do not get as dirty with the gray bottom, and do not slip off when taking off shoes and boots.  Even with tax, at less than 80 cents per pair, consider a look.

Tostitos Artisan Recipe Chips … better than I was expecting.  When you hear 9-grain baked chip, you are somewhat skeptical before even trying them.  They are quite light and have a nice blend of tastes.  They do taste better with a salsa or creamy dip.  Comes in 4 varieties.  Their cost is about the same as baked Lays.  Definitely worth a try!

If you have a graduating senior, make sure to shop around for graduation announcements.  You can save a bundle!  If your school does not have a “graduation robe closet,” look into starting one.  Paying $30 or more for a one-time use robe is just insane.  If you have children that are close in height and age, save the robe for additional uses.

Poulan Pro Lawn Mower

If you are in the market for a new lawn mower, consider a Poulan Pro Lawn Mower.  The name that is perhaps more famous for chainsaws, makes a high quality lawn mower as well:

If you are on a long-term medication and it is close to having its patent expire, make sure to research your options in advance and speak with your health care provider and pharmacist.  Sometimes, companies do very strange things (taking the medication off the market prematurely, for example).  Remember to use your local health clinic and pharmacy for special deals.  Do a little research  – it will pay off.  Some of them receive nice grants that will indirectly benefit you.

Remember to ask your health care provider about glucose pills if you have blood sugar issues, especially if you or your child is an athlete.

Remember to get your oil changed regularly in all of your vehicles – at your local place.  With this economy, you never know when that hometown loyalty will be a future blessing.

With the price of gas at all time high levels, try using a gas additive to increase your mileage.  Keep track to see how much you are saving.  Better gas mileage also means your engine is running smoother, which will benefit you in the long run.  STP makes a good product.  Duralub oil additive will also help with gas mileage and reducing engine wear.  Also, make sure you keep that gas in your own car with a locking gas cap.

If there are any judgments, debts or  taxes that need to be paid, consider using money orders to avoid potential future problems.

Consider shopping at Thrift Stores.  You will be able to pick up very nice clothes for a fraction of the new cost.  Sometimes, there are still tags on them!  Also, places like Plato’s Closet is very particular with the clothes they take (which you can sell to them as well); even though they are slightly more expensive than a thrift store, the quality – especially younger fashions – is worth it.

If you are one of those people that hate dealing with weed trimmer line, consider switching to a polycut blade.  If your weed trimmer can accept the special polycut blade head, your are in business!

If you have an old root canal that is giving you problems, or if it pre-absessing, it may be time to “bite the bullet” and see an endodontist, which is a dentist that specializes in treatment of the inside of the tooth.  Root canal retreatments may set you back about $1,000, but it is better than losing your tooth.  They generally use advanced computer technology to see every small step of the procedure (which they will share with you as well).  Talk to your dental care specialist for more details.

Take advantage of the back-to-school sales to buy your regular office supplies.

If you have a student going to college, pick up some items from time to time and put in a box – toiletries and such, especially.  That way, you can use coupons, wait for sales, and make sure they have what they are used to – one less thing to stress about for all.

Watch for loyalty card deals at places like CVS, Rite-Aid and Walgreens.  Not only do they have special discounts for card members, they also have points you can earn and use.  The discounts are normally buy one get one at half price for literally hundreds of different items at different times – even important things like chocolate and gum!  They offer bonus points for daily check ins as well as exercising!  Purchasing everyday items like gum, candy, OTC store brand items, will get you there.

With all of that strange whole wheat food at school cafeterias, the shrinking amounts and expanding prices, consider sandwiches.  Different lunch meats, various cheeses, tasty bread and chips will make a good-tasting, nutritious and fun lunch.  If anyone works from home, or away from home, this is a frugal option as well.  You can even do “Subway” or “Quizno’s” style.  You may actually remember that you like sandwiches.

If you want to pick up a supersub for dinner, check out your local grocery store.  A multi-meat, multi-cheese on a french bread loaf should set you back anywhere from $5-$8.  It should feed at least 4!

Gift cards from fast food places are just a perfect gift for stocking stuffers, birthdays, care packages to college, just because, thank you gifts.  McDonalds, Taco Bell, KFC, Sonic, Subway, Wendys, Hardees, Steak N Shake, Arbys, the list just goes on and on.  They will be so appreciated.  If you keep a couple extra on hand, you will always have an emergency gift — or an emergency lunch.

With it being back to school, this IS the time to buy backpacks, lunch containers, office supplies.  Look at Target, Ross’, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Academy, Old Navy.  Especially, lunch containers are very difficult to find after this time of year.

Croc Flip Flops

If someone’s birthday is getting close, go classic and nostalgic:  an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.  You can even get Blizzard flavored ones!

Make sure you are buying that Sunday newspaper for the coupons.  Also, you will get advance information regarding CVS and Walgreens specials.  Wait for the buy one, get one 50% off with your rewards card for some of those prized OTC medications.

See if you can stop by your local hardware store for some free advise on small repairs.  You may be able to pull it off.  If not, they should have a name of a trusted handyman.

Consider buying a camping grill that uses those small propane cylinders.  It is very portable, can travel anywhere, the propane is safe to take with you in the car, and can even be used at home if need be.

If you work at a computer or use your shoulders frequently, you may benefit from a heating pad that covers your neck and shoulder area. You will be very happy once you try it:

If you are an allergy sufferer, Claritin 24 hour Fexofenadine HCl – 180 mg Antihistamine works very well.  Most people see the same results with Wal Flex (Walgreens).  Make sure to look into Wal-Phed as well.  Consult your health care provider, and you may be on your way to allergy relief!

Consider going to a local hygiene clinic.  Most community colleges have this type of program.  Since their students need supervised work, they will normally open up to the public services at a very reduced price.  A dentist is supervising, so you will get a professional opinion for a fraction of the cost.

Make sure you walk around your car once a month or so to make sure you do not have any bulbs burned out.  Local auto parts stores like O’Reilly’s, Auto Zone, Pep Boys will sometimes change them out for you for no charge!

Make sure to always have caulk around the house.  It is great for so many different repairs – temporary and permanent. Cinder blocks are also surprisingly cheap and quite useful for repairs, support, building, …

Looking for a frugal dinner idea?  Keep an eye on the Pizza Hut website.  They run regular specials – $5.55 each for 2 larges, $10 and $19.99 dinner specials, wing special nights that vary in different regions.  They are also very good with supporting local organizations by being apart of coupon fundraisers (the free bread sticks with a large pizza is great for at least 3 people – maybe 4 if there are younger children) and special prices for school functions.  Check it out!

Another frugal dinner idea: Sonic’s 5 Sonic Burgers for $5.95 on Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to close.  Call your local Sonic to make sure they have it.  Add a large order of tots for a meal for the entire family.  Hard to beat and so good!

Wait to get those chips on sale!  Sometimes, less than half price!  With expiration dates at least 6 months down the road, a little planning will save you money!  Let’s be frugal!

Where Can I Buy Crocs

Since summer is here, it is time to look into getting some new Crocs. The best selection is directly through Crocs:

Crocs, Inc.

If you will be going to any outside sporting events this summer (baseball, softball, soccer, etc.), make sure to look into folding chairs.  Academy has great deals going on.  Cool polka dot chairs are waiting for you for only $9.99.  If you are alright with their logo on it, you can pick up a chair for $5.99.

Is your cordless phone acting up? It may be the battery. Take your phone into Radio Shack and they should have a replacement battery. “Good as new!”

Help support our military – send care packages.  The post office has special rates for APO/FPO/DPO.  It means more to them than you may ever know.  If you do not know of any, contact your local schools or churches – they should have a list.

Do you live in an old house?  Make sure you check to see if you have any old threaded fuses somewhere.  These fuses are sometimes rather difficult to find, especially if one blows at an inconvenient time.  So make sure you find them before they are needed.  A small hardware store (Ace, TruValu) or a farm and home store (MFA, Orscheln, Farm & Home) should have what you need or can order it for you.
