Best Video Game Deals

Best Buy Co, Inc.

Perfect ideas for the holidays, best video game deals!

If you do a great amount of sewing and need a new machine, consider the Singer Heavy Duty Sewing Machine.  It is just slightly more expensive than a run-of-the-mill machine, but it will last so much longer – perhaps 2-3 times as long.  Now that’s frugal!

If you have dogs that stay outside every once in awhile or more, consider a kennel cover.  They keep rain, sun, snow, etc. mostly off of the dogs.  It holds up well on extremely windy days.  You should definitely take your drill and add a machine screw and lock nut on each of the four supports.  Amazingly, even below freezing weather has less of an effect on the pine/cedar.  It will definitely help it last longer.  So, in the long run, you will be ahead.  Now that’s frugal!

If you have not been to Fuddruckers lately, you should check it out.  Really tasty gourmet burgers.  Their chicken Caesar salad is also surprisingly good.  The best part is being able to add anything you want from the salad bar, including the cheese and french fry sauces.  Make sure to look at the Wednesday special (if you are there on Wednesday) before making your ordering decision.  (Plus you can save money by not worrying about the tip)  You can also answer a few questions for their survey for a chance to win a $100 gift card.

As the holidays are approaching and guests are coming, consider going to an import store to pick up some of those special items – cheeses, meats, veggies.  You might be surprised to find that the prices and the quality will be much better than the supermarket version.  It may keep you from going out to eat, which again saves money!

If you have priced hams lately, you may have been in shock.  Here is another money saving idea:  many discount grocery stores have ham pieces, normally with the rind, that are cut up already in a package for $2-$3 per pound.  Buy a package or two. and freeze until 3 days before Thanksgiving.  Then defrost in the refrigerator, pour dark Karo syrup over it and heat in a crockpot on Thanksgiving morning.  No one will know you did not spend $50 on you ham – and it is pre-sliced and ready to go!

As the thoughts of guests are in your head, make sure your plumbing situation is ready.  Consider stocking up on various sized plungers – inexpensive without the fold out, one with it, a small drain plunger, an accordion type, and strainers to keep out items that could cause issues.  So much cheaper than a plumber and reusable.  Now that’s frugal!

As you prepare for guests, if you notice some of your grout has disappeared, there is help.  Your local flooring store might have special colored caulk that is designed to fill in between tiles.  If you have a piece of the grout, it will be easier to match.  Much cheaper than replacing all of you floor or wall.  Now that’s frugal!

If you have a new car where the dealer has given you free oil changes, make sure you take the recommended extra services with a grain of salt.  Do your research ahead of time to see which services are actually worth it.  Certain engine treatments make actually improve gas mileage, so it would more than pay for itself.  Other services may be unnecessary or overpriced.  Be prepared so you can make the right fiscal decision!

With winter upon us, watch your windshield.  Keep some of those “gas station” towels on hand (available in a roll at O’Reilly’s or Auto Zone).  If you have a chip, have it checked out by a glass company.  Some of them can actually be eliminated.  Others, if they are filled, will be less likely to run since water will not get in and turn to ice.  Normally, $30 to $40 will take care of this.  This is certainly much less than a new windshield.  Frugal!

As you check over your Christmas list, consider going to Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Ross’ for their great line of gift items.  These stores buy the inventory after close out sales of department stores.  Obviously, last years socks, underwear, never-out-style shoes, etc. look the same as this years’ items.  Of course, the many kitchen and household items they have are always in style.  Places like Macys and Dillards have rotations of best selling items and the last mark-down step merges into the sell to the discount stores.  Their holiday decoration selection will also knock your socks off, but for less money!  Check it out for yourself – same quality, a fraction of the cost!

If you are looking for comfortable and stylish shoes and looking to make a difference, combine these by buying some Toms shoes.  For each pair sold, they donate a pair.  Awesome idea!  They normally run great specials on their stock, as well.  Now that’s frugal!

Save money on your furnace bill.  Look into oil filled radiator heaters as well as ceramic and milkhouse heaters for the bathroom and kitchen table.  They work great for bedrooms and will allow you to greatly decrease your thermostat.  This is the time of year that they are discounted.  You may be able to grab one for $30 if you look around.  They really work and save money!  With your thermostat down during the day, make sure you pick up some thermal hunting socks.  They really work around the house as well.  More money saving!

Great gift idea for your spouse: gift cards to restaurants.  You get thank you’s for the gift and then you get to go out to eat for “free.”  Cracker Barrel, Applebees, Chilis – place like that so you do not look like a cheapskate.

Epson Workforce 2540

Looking for an all-in-one printer that is reliable and a work horse? The Epson Workforce 2540.  It is very easy to set it up as a wireless printer (without dealing with all of the network mumbo-jumbo), it is a fax, a scanner, flatbed copier, has a semi-auto doc feed.  The ink cartridges are easy to find and easy to change out.  Regularly $129.99, it is on sale for $99.99.

Ready to take your lawn and weeds? Consider a good quality electric curved shaft trimmer. If you do not like to deal with the nylon string, consider replacing the head with one that will accept polycut blades:

If you are looking for a little extra money, consider a local yardsale site to sell some of your unwanted items as you spring clean your house.  Facebook has several.

If you are looking for good quality at a good price casual/dress clothes for ladies, consider going to Cato.  Their selections last very well, are easy to care for, and still look good after many wearings.  They have nice handbags, pants, tops, shoes and easy to find (normally in a strip mall close to a Wal*Mart).

Don’t forget those engine additives this spring.  There are some you can add almost every tank and others you add with every oil change.  Just a 10% boost in gas mileage can save you a bundle; more than enough to pay for the additive.  Make sure to check your tire pressure (and valves) as well.

Make sure to always keep silicone and duct tape around to take care of those leaks, drips, rips, and other minor repairs that can cause major headaches.

If you have had the unfortunate situation of losing a dog, you may want to consider taking it to your vet so they can handle it.  Also consider a rescue dog to rescue and give a loving home.  Make sure if you have other dogs in the house that their shots are up to date to avoid issues with the dog rescue facility.  Sometimes, emotions and frugality can mix.  Make sure to pick up plenty of paper towels and baby wipes to help train that new puppy!  You may also need a new dog collar, leash, name tag, and bed for the puppy and perhaps other dogs in the house – they do wear out after all.  Make sure you take the new dog to the vet for a “well puppy” check-up!

Pick up some cedar and pine (alternate) for the dog cage.  The pine soaks up water better and the cedar smells better.  You can put some of the cedar into cloth bags for your closet and dresser drawers (good smell and keeps moths away).

If you are looking for an inexpensive and casual meal, consider getting a super sub from the supermarket deli.  Pick up some canned soft drinks and chips.  Add some of your own favs (look near the salad dressings for olive salad, pepper salads and other ideas) to have your own sub night!

Fast food gift cards, especially for teenagers and young adults, always make a great gift.  Sometimes, you can get a free drink or small ice cream cone when you purchase a gift card.  Sweet deal!

Look for inexpensive entertainment?  Redbox probably has a location near you.  Make sure to reserve your movie online so you do not have to go to multiple locations to find it.  If you sign up for both the text and email clubs, you will receive perhaps enough coupon codes to avoid ever paying without a discount!

Bring back some childhood memories by picking up a Dairy Queen ice cream cake for a birthday or celebration!

If you like loose tea, compare prices of loose tea with tea bags.  Normally, tea bags are much cheaper.  Sometimes a blend of inexpensive black tea to a fancier brand (Earl Grey), maybe 3 to 1, yields a very pleasant flavor.  A package of loose tea will go much further than you think.  Make sure to use a teapot set to obtain the best brew and flavor.

Although some grocery stores carry import items, you will find a much better selection at an import store.  Whether you pleasure is Mediterranean, Asian, Indian, Mexican, you should be able to find a store that fits within that description – either brick and mortar or online.

Consider adding air conditioning window units.  They are normally available at places like KMart for under $150.  Look for sales and research if your local electric company has a rebate program for energy efficient units.  You can turn the units on and off depending on whether the room is used.  Many two story houses just cannot get the upstairs cool (without a second outside unit), so this is a very frugal solution!

If you like poached eggs or soft boiled eggs, the Egg Genie may be for you.  It has a slight learning curve, but it is really nice.  Make sure you do not use all of the egg “white” when making poached eggs.

Consider taking all of your vehicles to your local oil change place.  It would be easier to come up with a history when you are trying to sell your car and you will develop a good business relationship which could come in handy in this day of home businesses.

Research life insurance companies.  You can find a small policy (less than $250,000) without the hassle of a physical or other tests for a reasonable monthly premium.  Income replacement, piece of mind, paying off debt — there are so many reasons for life insurance.  You certainly do not want the loved ones left behind to not even have enough for final expenses.  American National has policies that are worth looking into.  You can even apply online in 15 minutes.

Try Bert’s Bees beeswax.  Works great and is all natural. Burt’s Bees Honey Lip Balm with Vitamin E(Pack of 2)

Save money on heating costs.  Buy wood from a local vendor and small starter logs and firestarters.  Shop around for the wood to get a good deal.  Make sure to check around so their wood is properly seasoned.  The starter logs and firestarters will set you back about $10 each, but much cheaper than “fake logs.”  A disadvantage is dryer skin, but winter has less humidity anyway.  A good solution is plenty of moisturizer/lotion on hands and feet.

Make sure to stock up on generic or equate pain relievers: aspirin, IB, Alleve, Tylenol, pepto.  Also, ask your health care provider about OTC supplements like COQ10, fish oil, multi-vitamins, etc.  Sometimes, they have the same benefits as prescription meds without some of the side effects.

Consider talking to your dentist about a deep cleaning.  Although it is somewhat pricey, most good dental insurance policies cover most of the bill and it could prevent potential serious matters in the future.

Toshiba Laptop Deals

Even if Christmas is in your rear-view mirror, there is not a certain season for new laptops.  In this age of technology, people of all ages need one to get along in society.  Toshiba is one of the better known and reliable brands in the industry.  One of the best way to get a deal is to go directly to the manufacturer, at Toshiba Direct.

You can get tablets, laptops, desktops.  The tablets and laptops start at $349.99.  One of the best things about using the Toshiba Direct site is that you can customize your own laptop. Now if you want a much better computing experience, you should really consider the 17.3 inch screen.  It makes a “bigger” difference than originally thought.  It does take up a little more space, which would be relevant when transporting the computer; but not as much as you would think.

As the new semester approaches, it is time to look for those textbooks.  Consider used textbooks from Amazon Marketplace.  Prices change continuously, so you have to monitor it.  Find out the rental fee and wait for the book to get close to that price.  When you buy used, you can also sell the books back at the end of the semester.  See if your local bookstore will pay more or if you want to send it to Amazon for a gift card (perhaps to use for the next semester’s books).

Screen sizes vary from 11.6 inches to 17.3 inches.  Obviously, the larger screen is easier to see and more entertaining to watch videos.  However, these are also harder to transport as the screen gets bigger.  The smaller screen seems to be much sharper.  So, it depends on what you are “looking for.”  Our personal preference would be to have a screen that is at least 14 inches.

The RAM varies from 4GB to 8GB. Basically, the higher the RAM, the more programs you can have open and properly functioning at once.  The Hard Drive capacity varies from 320 GB to 1 TB.  The larger the hard drive, the more data you can store.  If you are planning on storing a large amount of videos and programs that need large memory, the higher capacity might be for you.

Since grass-cutting season is here, you should consider how your lawn will be taken care of this year.  If you want to hire someone, you should do it quickly since many of the better people fill up their schedules early.  If you are doing it yourself, start shopping sales at home improvement stores, farm and feed stores.  If you have a smaller yard, you may consider a less expensive electric weed eater.

If you need repairs between your bricks, consider buying mortar repair before you call a bricklayer.

Do you own a car that has a microchip in the key?  The dealer will probably tell you that you will need to pay something like $500 for a new key.  Well, if you do some research online and also talk with local larger locksmiths, you can save hundreds of dollars.  You can normally find a shell of the key (or get a valet key) and have the dealer program it.  Now with a valet key, you can’t open the trunk directly, but it could be fine for your needs.  Sometimes, if you own a Lexus, Infinity, Acura, etc. you can get another dealer in town to do this for less money (ie, Toyota, Nissan, Honda – respectively).

Does your child play sports?  Do some research online for deals on sports equipment.  Epic Sports, Eastbay, Amazon – just to name a few.  There are other sites that specialize in a particular sport.  You will save money and will have a much better selection.  Local stores that specialize in a certain sport sometimes have better prices on some items.  It will pay off to do your research – maybe even online.
